The Pulitzer Prize winning play by David Auburn Directed by Constance Cawlfield
|
|
David Auburn’s Proof is a play about mathematicians whose science matters less than their humanity.
Robert, a world famous mathematician who went crazy, Catherine, his mathematically brilliant, but depressed daughter, Hal, a former student of Robert’s, and Claire, Catherine’s controlling older sister are fascinating individuals.
Whether loving, encouraging, or impeding one another, they are intensely alive, complex, and funny human beings. “An exhilarating and assured new play...accessible and compelling as a detective story” Bruce Weber, New York Times
“An exciting drama, this witty play combines elements of mystery and surprise with old fashioned story telling” David Kaufman, Daily News |

The Diaries of Adam and Eve November 2008 |
The Diaries of Adam and Eve Translated by Mark Twain Directed by Constance Cawlfield
|
|
Before "Men Are From Mars".....there was "Adam and Eve." Based on works by the immortal Mark Twain, Adam is puzzled by this new arrival in his garden. He wishes she would talk less and he's very suspicious of her disturbing appetite for fruit. For her part, Eve is curious about Adam, who she concludes must be some kind of reptile, although it probably is architecture. Eve goes about naming everything, much to Adam's annoyance, but they come to love each other. Adam comes to know that........ "Wheresoever she was...there was Eden." While the story is about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden; our production is set in the Victorian era of Mark Twain in costumes and stage pieces. "Delightfully entertaining for the whole family."

![]() A Comedy by Del Shores Directed by Constance Cawlfield |
Before "Daddy's Dyin' Who's Got the Will?" There was this award winning comedy and its hilarious tribute to a small watering hole set in the west Texas town of Lowake and its favorite pastime, gossip. The clan includes Bo Bob, the dimwitted mailman, and Clarence, local stud and mechanic who's been messin' with Ovella since high school. His faithful girl is Sara Lee Turnover, the beautician. Teddy Joe, Ovella's wronged husband who is more brawn than brain. Maybelline, the love-starved, overweight waitress; and a narrator/story teller/singer who doubles as a psychic and believes in happy endings. The comedy is fast paced and touching with a sense of authentic Texas humor. "First rate." Hollywood Reporter "Hilarious." L.A. Daily News "A sodbuster." L.A. Times "A hotcake of a Texas comedy." ![]() California Suite A Comedy by Neil Simon Directed by Constance Cawlfield |
|
"California Suite" contains three one-act playlets, each giving us a glimpse of various groups of guests in the same suite at the Beverly Hills Hotel at different times of the same year.
The first concerns a wonderfully eccentric British star on her way to the Academy Awards with her significant other who have had a special relationship for many years.
The second one is a free-wheeling farce about a man who wakes up with an unconscious hooker in his bed and his wife on the way up to the room in the elevator.
The third is a madcap moment of physical comedy that focuses on two affluent young couples who are best friends - until they go on an extended vacation together - and end up having constant squabbles.
This last scene is based on Simon's real life experience when he and his first wife went on a much anticipated vacation with their two best friends and chaos ensued. "Mr. Simon is writing at his ebullient best. . . . His language has the grace of conversation we wish our friends could muster. . . . Makes us laugh so effortlessly." N.Y. Times . "The middle aged visitors had last night's middle aged audience laughing heartily." N.Y. Daily News . |

|
Description:
|
It is the tenth anniversary of Charlie and Myra Brock who are talked about but never seen throughout the entire play. They have invited their closest, married friends to share this special evening with them. All couples arrive at different times and all are elegantly attired. Men in tuxedos, women in cocktail dresses. Jewelry, etc. Except for Cookie who definitely has her own concept of formal elegance. Each couple has their own, unique dynamic going on between each other and with the other couples. As soon they arrive they are all suddenly thrust into a bazaar incident involving the Brocks. Chaos ensues and escalates throughout the evening. The humor derives not only from the incident itself but the speculation, gossip, cover-up, and sheer panic of all Charlie’s friends. These are all successful, professional adults who gradually become scheming, mischievous children grouped together trying to figure out a cover-up for this ridiculous incident in order not to be suspected of a crime. It is a fast paced, energetic ensemble farce at its best. |

Description: |
In this female version, Oscar and Felix have become the unapologetic slob, Olive, and her neurotic perfectionist friend, Florence - think of the sometimes strained relationship between flatmates Monica and Rachel on 'Friends' and you get the picture. Like their male counterparts, they have a support group of friends, who gather for trivial pursuit games, rather than poker. Add to the mix the poor English of a charming pair of Spanish brothers called Jesus and Manolo for whom Olive has the hots, and the result can only be comic mayhem. |

Description
|
A Neil Simon type, a novelist whose
reveries about the women in his life takes place in his work space.
They talk and argue with him. They often say what he wishes they
would say, and then laugh or argue over how self serving he has made them.
Some women appear as real people, others as figments of his imagination.
This is a Neil Simon masterpiece. Funny and
serious and intensely personal. Each character interacts and often
on several levels of reality. Jake's Women is written
for the ear, not relying on large sets and props. It is the words
that draw the audience into Jake's world and his women.
